ESB Telecoms was established in early 2001 as a wholly owned subsidiary within the ESB Group, focused on exploiting opportunities in the Irish telecommunications market.

ESB Telecoms built and owns a 1,300 kilometre National Fibre Optic Network (NTFON). The NTFON is constructed in a 'Figure of Eight' around Ireland and also includes a spur from Carrick on Shannon to Buncrana. It comprises 48-core fibre and is wrapped on the ESB High Voltage Network.

ESB Telecoms also owns and manages over 300 telecommunications towers and sites on which all major Irish telecommunications companies have substantial installations.

Using its nationwide network of fibre optic cabling and telecommunications sites and structures, ESB Telecoms offers an unrivalled portfolio of bandwidth services (managed bandwidth and dark fibre) and infrastructure solutions (antenna space and ground rental).

ESB Telecoms' customers include all the mobile phone operators, the Irish Government, licensed operators and wireless internet services providers.

ESB Telecoms enjoys cooperative working relationships with Irish Government departments and agencies and with a number of Other Licensed Operators, Internet Services Providers and Data Centre Operators.
